There are several parks though within the area, you just have to know where they are!

Tips for Raising a Child in New York City

NYC is a walking city. So if you’re going to live in this city, bring your walking shoes or buy a bicycle. Now, this can be particularly challenging for parents who are trying to raise children who are younger than five years old. They don’t typically do well with the whole “walking” long distances thing. So you will have to find a way around that. Many parents take advantage of bikes and electric scooters!

Try to find a neighborhood that is close to a park. If you can, try to find a neighborhood that’s close to a park where your child can play and explore nature. This will benefit your child as they’ll get to play outside and not be cooped up in an apartment all day long.

Live near your school district. Living in an area that’s close to your kid’s schools is vital. NYC doesn’t really use buses, kids are responsible for getting themselves to school either in some way. When they’re young kids, you will have to get them there yourself. This often mean riding bikes or taking scooters or just walking. So the closer you live, the better.

Teach Stranger Danger. As you can probably imagine, NYC is a very busy, chaotic city, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t safe. You just have to teach your kids city safety, which is a little different than suburban or rural area safety. Teach your kids about stranger danger, make sure they always have emergency contacts on them, and keep a cell phone on them at all times if they transport themselves around the city. It doesn’t matter how old they are, in New York, they need a way to contact you.
