Camp Staff and Counselors
Camp Burton prides itself on having an experienced, caring, and safety-focused camp staff. All staff members undergo background checks and extensive training before the summer begins.
The camp directors and leadership team have many years of experience running summer camps. They are dedicated to leading a well-organized and enriching camp for your child. Counselors are typically college students or graduates who have a passion for working with children. They go through orientation and training on safety protocols, activity instruction, homesickness and behavior management, and more.
The counselor-to-camper ratio is approximately 1 to 6 in the cabin groups. This allows for close supervision and individual attention. Counselors live in cabins with their assigned campers to provide 24/7 guidance. During activities, there are additional instructors and staff members to maintain safe supervision levels. Campers are never left unattended.
The healthcare team includes a camp doctor, nurses, and EMTs to handle any medical needs. Staff are trained in first aid, CPR, and emergency procedures. Parents can feel secure knowing their child is surrounded by positive role models and caring adults devoted to their safety and development. The Camp Burton staff is truly what sets this camp apart.
Health & Safety
Camp Burton prioritizes health, safety, and medical care for all campers. The camp employs a team of experienced medical staff, including nurses, EMTs, and camp health officers who are on-call 24/7.
Camp Burton has strict safety policies and procedures in place. All camp staff undergo background checks prior to employment. The camp maintains a low counselor-to-camper ratio to ensure proper supervision at all times. Campers are not permitted to leave the camp grounds or lodging areas without authorization and accompaniment by staff. The camp's health center is stocked with first-aid supplies and common over-the-counter medications. Staff are trained in CPR, first aid, and emergency procedures. For more advanced care, Cleveland Clinic Geauga Medical Center is located just 15 minutes from camp.
Upon registration, parents must provide health history forms indicating any medical conditions, allergies, medications, and special needs. The health history forms allow our medical staff to provide appropriate care as needed. Parents must provide all medications and prescriptions required by campers, which are stored under lock and key and administered by staff.
Camp Burton recommends parents pack the following items for camper health and safety:
- Prescription medications in original containers with instructions
- Sunscreen and hat
- Bug spray
- Water bottle
